Hey, Nice Grill Marks

One of the best things about living in a new city and new state, is all of the places available to explore. A nearby city that holds a lot to explore is Columbia, it is home to so many cool restaurants, bars, art galleries, shops, hotels, events, entertainments, and history. Downtown Columbia is a beautiful area that I have yet to fully explore but what I have seen is so intriguing and beautiful.
This past weekend my family and I decided to venture out into an area of downtown Columbia known as the Vista. It is a really neat place where each street is lined with these rad brick buildings that house restaurants, bars, and galleries. Each brick building is unique and home to a different story, it is hard not to get caught up in its magic.

On Sunday, we had dinner as a family at a restaurant we had been dying to try, Grill Marks.

Grill Marks is a really cool, laid back burger joint that sells gourmet burgers, milkshakes, and some of the best fries you will ever have in your life. I was in heaven being that I am a burger and fries kinda girl. Now the menu, of course, was different from that of an average burger joint. To give you an idea of their food here’s what we ordered:

For starters we shared a large serving of their Truffle Parmesan Fries served with Dijonnaise and Fried Pickles (my favorite) served with Cucumber Dill Sauce. Amazing!! If you have never had truffle on any type of food, you must! It’s life changing.

As far as the burgers, aside from my mom who ordered a salad, my brother, dad, and I had to step out of our comfort zone and let me tell you, it was not hard at all. The options are endless when it comes to burger. They literally offer a burger for any preference and even have topless (no top bun) or naked (no bun) options. It is overwhelming, in a good way! Bring on the burgers:

Firehouse: grilled onions and jalapenos, Applewood smoked bacon, pepper-jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, and chipotle ketchup
gm 15
Hawaiian Punch: Applewood smoked bacon, pepper-jack cheese, grilled pineapple, jalapeno pesto, lettuce, and tomato
gm 9
BONEafide: brie, red wine butter, bone marrow, and demi glace

Talk about gourmet, right? The flavors were just unexplainably delicious and surprisingly light. I can go on and on about how good it all was.

Now, Grill Marks is also known for their milkshakes and boozy shakes but the are popular for their “FreakShakes.” They’re basically shakes on steroids and they are a dream.

My parents split a regular vanilla milkshakes, which must have been really good because my mom finished it all and she isn’t into sweets.┬áMy brother and I shared one of their new and popular “FreakShakes” called Cookies & Cream Dirt. Be still my heart, it was out of this world. All of their ice cream is made in house so you can image just how good it was.

Needless to say the experience was one of a kind and turned into one of our favorite spots. They have three locations in South Carolina so, if you are ever in the state you HAVE to check them out!
